For writers looking for new publishing opportunities, I’ve started a digital press called Garden Gnome Publications. It’s a small press, so not much to it. But it’s growing in traffic daily.
Currently, I have two publishing opportunities for budding writers.
- Flashes In The Pan – Flash fiction is a recent outgrowth of the working class culture that has we Americans spinning and grinning. Call it a byproduct of the fast food craze, but we just don’t have much time for reading any more. But we still love our fiction. Flashes In The Pan gives writers of short fiction – 1,234 words or less – a way get seen and heard, mostly seen. This opportunity is ongoing.
- Garden of Eden Anthology – The Garden of Eden Anthology is a part of the Biblical Legends Speculative Fiction Anthology Series. The idea is to take stories from the Bible and use them as jumping off points for stories that capture the imagination. The Garden of Eden anthology submission guidelines asks writers to send stories of inhabitants of the garden other than Adam, Eve, and the Serpent. Many writers have already stepped up to the challenge. We invite you to, as well. Deadline is December 3, 2013.
Being a small press, I don’t have a huge budget. I’m funding it out of my pocket. But I don’t like paying writers “in exposure.” I’d rather pay something, even if it’s a pittance. So, here’s what I’m offering writers ready for the challenge.
Anthology contributors will receive $3 for flash fiction, $7 for short stories, $11 for essays on the theme, and $13 for poems (narrative poems only).
Since I don’t have a huge budget for Flashes In The Pan, every flash fiction story published is entered into the Flim-Flam Games. This is a monthly contest where the winner receives a $5 prize and is selected by three judging criteria that include
- Garden gnome tastes
- Average daily Facebook likes
- And ability of the writer to stay on theme
Feel free to check out the guidelines and stay tuned for more publishing opportunities (I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve!). 😉
