5 Reasons to Write and Publish a Book in 2020

write and publish a book

If you’re an executive or a professional who has thought about writing a book, 2020 is the year for you. I’m a firm believer in taking action, and there’s no more decisive action than writing and publishing a book. You’re a leader, and leaders are authorities.

Here are five solid reasons to write and publish your book in 2020:

  1. It establishes your authority – A book does one thing really well. It establishes your authority in the eyes of readers. If you’re a professional, you’re already an authority. The book confirms it. In fact, the root of “authority” is “author.” As an author, you will be seen as an authority on the subject matter of your book. By taking your knowledge and presenting it in the format of a book, you put the final stamp on your expertise as a viable authority figure in your industry. Stephanie Chandler has done this well through self-publishing.
  2. A book can provide you with ongoing passive income – A book, once published, can be a side income for you. Whether you publish your book as a print book, an e-book, or both, you can market your book to your intended audience and turn your knowledge into passive income. See how Nathan Meunier does this with low-budget Kindle books.
  3. A book makes a great calling card – By writing on a topic on which you are an expert, you can use your book as a calling card. Many authors use this approach to engage with professional prospects. The book illustrates, much better than a business card does, your expertise in a very physical and mental way. You can pass your book out to potential business partners, customers, and prospects at conferences, speaking engagements, networking events, and other places where you meet people you expect to do business with in the future. Ruth Ross uses her book as a calling card.
  4. A book enhances your messagePatrick Schwerdtfeger sells most of his books at conferences and speaking engagements. Because he speaks on the topics on which he has written, his books reinforce his message with his audience. As a professional public speaker, he is seen as an authority both when he speaks and when he publishes a book. Plus, he derives income from both channels. You can too.
  5. A book promotes your business – Carol Tice promotes her business with e-books. In fact, a book–whether in print or digital–is one of the best ways to promote a business. If you’re a real estate agent, for instance, you can write and publish a book about real estate, real estate investing, or tackle a local angle regarding real estate, and that helps promote your business. The same could be said for any profession. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, and professionals of all kinds use books as a means to promote their businesses because it works. You can do it too!

Books are awesome authority products. Whether you publish print books, e-books, or both, putting your name on the cover of a book establishes you as an authority in your field. You instantly are recognized as an expert in the eyes of most people just by being an author. That’s why 2020 is going to be a good year, especially if you take action right now to write and publish your book. What are you waiting for?

Books I Have Written or Edited for Clients

As a ghostwriter and book publishing consultant for executives and business professionals, I have written or edited several books and e-books, including some of my own. Here is a list of books I have helped my clients get published.

  • Start Here: 40 Freelance Writers Share How They Find Clients, Stay Motivated, & Earn Well Today:  Technically, I didn’t help Carol Tice publish this book, but I do have an article in the book. Yes, I’m one of the 40 writers included in this book, which was published to help other freelance writers manage and grow their freelance writing businesses.
  • Managing Talent in the Human Agee-book ghostwriting projectThis e-book is offered as a free download on Right Management’s website. The global talent and career management consulting firm wanted to take existing content from its own documents in addition to several collateral pieces from its parent company, Manpower, and compile them into one resource. I managed the project from beginning to end, including selecting the pieces for publication and writing introductions and summaries for articles as well as sections within the e-book.
  • The Ultimate Essential Guide to Online Lending: As editor of Lending Times, an online publication specializing in alternative lending news, I took all the original articles published on the publication’s website from the past year (2018) and compiled them into a print book, available for sale on Amazon.
  • real estate book coverBuilding an Empire: Failing Our Way to Millions: Steve Rozenberg is a successful real estate investor and executive with a nationally recognized property management company in Houston, Texas. He wanted to publish a book that tells the story of how he and his business partner went from full-time careers as an airline pilot (Rozenberg) and an IT professional (Pete Neubig). Rozenberg came to me with the story pre-written. I revised it, polished it, and turned it into a readable manuscript without taking away from his voice. The story is infused with his personality, but it looks professional and tells an engrossing rags-to-riches story about two opposite personalities who made a business partnership work. Rozenberg uses the book as a calling card at his speaking engagements around the world.

In addition to books and e-books, I have worked with other executives on ghostwriting projects for articles, blog posts, and other documents, and I’ve also written whitepapers. Are you ready to write and publish your book? Start 2020 off on the right foot and contact me today.
